Tangled Silver Event

The Season of Silver: Owning Our Wisdom, Our Voice, Our Beauty

Last week, I spent three days in Estes Park at the Silverhood Experience, hosted by Robin Salls of Tangled Silver Magazine. This gathering of women was designed to celebrate the beauty, wisdom, and power of silver-haired women through connection, storytelling, and empowerment.

For me, being in that room was deeply personal. I started my silver journey just 11 months ago. The last time I colored my hair was October 19, 2024. Like so many women, I did not make this decision lightly. There was plenty of back and forth, moments of resolve, moments of doubt, and even a few panicked calls to my stylist in those early months. She was not available in those urgent “I need you now” moments, and I think that was divine timing. Instead, I chose the cold turkey route, cutting off 8 inches of hair to shorten the grow-out.

And still, the questions ran through my mind. Would I still be relevant? Would I recognize myself? What would others see? I know I am not alone in that. Every woman who has made this decision has faced those very questions.

Today, I can say I am loving my hair. I love the silver, the unique patterns I did not even know were there, the healthiness that has returned, and of course, no more chemicals on my scalp every four weeks. I am close to having it fully grown out, and I have even picked up a new word for this transition stage this weekend: Gr’ombre.

But here is what I have discovered. This journey has become about so much more than my hair. It is about owning my wisdom, my visibility, and my voice.

And in a beautiful bit of divine timing, just as I was stepping into the Silverhood Experience, I received the photos back from a recent shoot with Candace Smith of The Essence Photographer. I love them so much, photos of me fully rocking my silver. Here is a sneak peek. This is 62, baby!

At the Silverhood Experience, we learned, laughed, and connected, and we were reminded just how powerful women’s voices are when we come together. The beauty of this gathering was that each woman brought a different facet of the silver journey: beauty, health, activism, visibility, and more. If you’re exploring your silver journey, let me share a few voices I loved and encourage you to follow:

These are women worth following, and you will love the wisdom they share.

I had the honor of speaking on The Business of Being Seen: Igniting Your Visibility in the Season of Silver. The world needs the perspective of women who have lived, who have led, and who have learned. It needs our stories, our presence, and our unapologetic voices shaping conversations, companies, communities, and causes. We are the movement makers. We are the women stepping forward, refusing to wait for permission, refusing to shrink into someone else’s mold. Every time we speak up, we open doors. We shift the story. And we make more room for the women coming behind us.

Aging is freeing. With each season of our lives, we grow bolder, braver, and more unapologetic in speaking the truth.

Look at the women showing us what this can look like. Gloria Steinem, now 91, still keynoting with radical clarity. Jane Fonda, 87, speaking out with fierce relevance. Annie Lennox, 70, still electrifying audiences, her voice cutting through with power and presence (watch her here).  These women remind us that aging is an invitation to be seen and to use our voices more boldly than ever.

We ended the event with an open-air jeep tour through Rocky Mountain National Park. Fresh air, crisp fall colors, and spectacular mountain vistas reminded us of the beauty of nature and the beauty of embracing our own seasons. It was the perfect close to three days of inspiration, laughter, and sisterhood.

Barbara Brooks of SecondAct Women put it best. One in three people today are over 50 and one in five will be over 65 by 2030. She calls this ROE, Return on Experience. Experience doesn’t age you out. It levels you up. Her words echo the truth that this season is not about fading. It is about rising into our power and using our voices to create change.

As I reflect back, one truth shines through. When women own their voice and embrace who they truly are, we shine in ways that spark movements. We become living proof that wisdom and beauty are not diminished by age, but amplified by it. The facets of our journeys in health, in beauty, in activism, and in voice become the medicine the world is asking for.

This is the season for women to stand fully in who we are. And it is ours to own.

That is exactly what we will be doing at the Extraordinary Women Ignite Conference, happening November 6–8 in Colorado. Ignite is where women founders, entrepreneurs, and movement makers come together to raise their voices, grow their visibility, and lead businesses that create impact.
