Opening the Window to Passion in Your Life

Opening the Window to Passion in Your Life

There is some kiss we want
with our whole lives.
The touch of spirit on the body.

Sea water begs the pearl
To break its shell

And the lily, how passionately
It needs some wild darling.

At night, I open the window
and ask the moon to come
and press its face to mine.
Breathe into me.

Close the language door and
Open the love window.

-Rumi

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a passionate soul. As a little girl, I greeted my horse each day with, “good morning love.” My passion for my family and friends beats wildly and guides the circles of my life. I long for adventure and play – whether it’s hiking a mountain, traveling to far-off places or meeting interesting people in new cultures. This picture of the Window in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado is from a family trail ride trip – a perfect window into my passions at many levels.

I can feel passion run through my veins and the exhilaration feeds my soul. When one of my clients gets a major ah-ha moment, my body celebrates in passion for work that I love. Passion is an intricate thread of my very fabric.

In fact, it’s an intricate thread of everyone’s fabric. The language of passion is felt. When Rumi wrote close the language door, he was inviting us to tune into the experience of the moment and feel it. I invite you to step out on the daring edge of feeling into your passions. There’s fire here. There’s exhilaration. There’s vulnerability.

This vulnerability can be raw. Yet, it is this very rawness that lets you live fully into your potential. When you take the courage to live into your passions and ultimately into your life potential – you will find deep meaning in life.

It’s meaning that so many seek. I hear it time and time again – “I want more meaning in my life – I want to matter.” Your passions guide you to meaning.

Is it no surprise that your passions can be discovered in your life stories? I want you to open the love window of your life and glimpse into the times that you have felt the deepest passions, the strongest pulsations, the most alive! What activities do you recall?

I invite you to play in the following passion guide to tune into the heart of your passions! Head out on a walk in your favorite place in nature and start considering all the times in your life where you’ve felt this passion pulsation beating through your veins. When you were 12 years old… in your career… in your life… then find a place that calls to you and sit down and capture your passions from the following prompts.

  • AT 12: Open the love window to the time when you were 12 years old… Recall when you felt the deepest passions, the strongest pulsations, the most alive! What activities did you love? Who were the people that moved you? What made your heart skip?
  • CAREER: Open the love window of your career… Recall when you felt the deepest passions, the strongest pulsations, the most alive! What activities did you love? Who were the people that moved you? What made your heart skip?
  • LIFE: Open the love window of your LIFE… Recall when you felt the deepest passions, the strongest pulsations, the most alive! What activities did you love? Who were the people that moved you? What made your heart skip?

Now you get to paint the threads that bind! Pull out a set of color pencils or highlighters. Find the threads of similarity that exist in the stories that you recall. Circle them. Link them. Are there themes of commonality that show up? Identify 4-5 threads of your passion fabric!
